Elevance Renewable Sciences Inc. is launching a series of building blocks and additives derived from natural oils that can help customers boost sustainability of their products.

The Woodbridge, Ill., company says the first product in its new Inherent series is an 18-carbon diacid. The chemical can be a monomer for engineering polymers such as polyurethanes and polyesters. Elevance says the engineering polymers are suited to applications in auto parts, electronics and consumer products where improved sustainability is important.

Other target markets for Inherent bioproducts include lubricants and personal care product formulations.

Elevance and partner Wilmar International Ltd. opened a 396 million pound per year biorefinery in Gresik, Indonesia, early in 2013. A second biorefinery is slated for Natchez, Miss., where Elevance technology will be able to make 616 million pounds per year of naturally derived products.
