AEP Industries Inc.’s purchase of the assets of Transco Plastics Industries Ltd. more than a year ago has allowed the company to meet job creation commitments in Kentucky.

AEP Industries moved former Transco printing equipment to the company’s Bowling Green, Ky., site earlier this year and hired additional workers to staff that machinery, Chief Financial Officer Paul Feeney said Dec. 18.

Some equipment was moved from a former Transco site in Montreal and installed in April. Other equipment was damaged in transit and did not come on line later in the year, he said.

While the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce issued a news release touting the new jobs on Dec. 18, Feeney said he did not want to leave the impression that there was any new news about the growth in Kentucky.

“We acquired the Transco assets, moved them to the United States and installed many of the assets in Kentucky and we’ve hired people to staff those lines. That’s all that’s really happening,” Feeney said.

AEP, based in South Hackensack, N.J., originally projected a $16 million investment that would create 35 jobs over three years. But the company has hired an additional 33 people beyond that number, the chamber said.

“We surpassed our commitment,” Feeney said.

AEP makes packaging films for the consumer, industrial and agricultural markets. The company has more than 15,000 products.
